Acupuncture model of the human body showing meridians and acupuncture points

What is acupuncture?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a collective term for several healing methods within Chinese medicine, of which acupuncture is the best known. This approach views the person as a whole in relation to their environment — emotions, work, relationships, diet, lifestyle, seasons and family background.

Body and mind are one — that is the foundation of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Acupuncture works with energy pathways (meridians) connected to organs, tissues and areas of the brain. By using very fine, sterile, single-use needles, we can add energy where there is a deficiency, release it where there is excess, or get it moving again where it is stagnant.

The choice of acupuncture points depends on the diagnosis I make through conversation, tongue and pulse assessment. Lifestyle advice and nutritional guidance can enhance the effect. After a few treatments the body often regains its ability to restore its own energetic balance.
